  • GARAM MASALA

    $2.50$4.50

A ubiquitious spice blend that gives flavour to dishes without adding heat. (SML PKT)

Contains: Fennel Seed, Caraway Seed, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Cloves, Black Pepper.

Description & Use: Garam means spices and masala refers to a mix. Thus Garam Masala is a very special blend of spices used in Indian cooking in much the same way as Europeans may add Mixed Herbs to everyday meals. Garam Masala adds flavour to curries and is often sprinkled over the surface of a simmering curry, where during slow cooking, the spice mixture contributes a rich flavour that would not otherwise be present. Garam Masala adds spice to food in a mild way and without the distinct cumin notes of curry. Garam Masala mixed with a little chilli powder and salt and sprinkled over fish before barbecuing, frying or grilling makes it delicious.

To make Kashmiri Garam Masala: Simply add to 1 Tablespoon of Herbie’s Garam Masala, 1 teaspoon of ground cumin and 1/2 a teaspoon each of nigella seeds and ground nutmeg.

  • GARLIC FLAKES 25GM

    $2.50

Just like using sliced cloves of garlic in slow cooking. (SML PKT)

Other Common Names: Clown’s Treacle, Poor Man’s Treacle. Botanical Name: (Allium sativum)

Description & Use: The part of garlic which we refer to as a clove is actually one of many bulblets, each with a papery casing and compacted into a larger corm or bulb. The history of garlic goes back to before Egyptian times and it is a herb which has always been valued for both its culinary qualities and medicinal attributes. Garlic is available in large slices, small minced pieces and as a powder. Pieces of large garlic flakes are delicious in curries and casseroles. Minced garlic and garlic powder are ideal in dishes that will not be cooked for long including garlic and herb breads. Use sparingly as dried garlic is surprisingly potent when compared to fresh.
